Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) has been used for over 30 years for the treatment of solid tumors. This method involves the infusion of chemotherapeutic agents followed by embolization with particles.
TACE is an effective treatment and is indicated for inoperable tumors, especially those hypervascularized, such as liver mets from colon-rectalcancer (CRC) and ocular melanoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, melanoma and sarcoma relapses.
TACE has been recently improved with the introduction of drug eluting beads (DEBs), in which a uniform embolic material is loaded with a drug and delivered in a single image-guided step, hence minimizing the systemic exposure to chemotherapeutics.
The drug, subsequently, elutes from the beads into the tissue in a controlled manner, inducing necrosis in tumours and surrounding tissue, starting from days to weeks after therapy.
IGEVO is a working group of expert physicians, who are devoted to Hepatic Intra Arterial Chemotherapy (HIAC) and TACE, which have joined their experience, skills, and passion for this technique, in order to make research and spread its methodology.
The group is opened to anyone who share our goals and want to work with us.
